I’m over 40 what are the best aesthetic treatments for my skin in 2026?
- Hormonal deficiencies create dryness and lost elasticity. This happens up to 8 years before the menopause.
- In a survey, when post menopausal women rated all the available treatments for the menopause, aesthetic treatments came out on top for satisfaction rates. Food supplements were amongst the lowest.
- Biostimulators (such as Sculptra (PLLA), Lenisna and Juvelook (PDLLA), Radiesse (CaHa)) increase the quantity of collagen, elasticity and thickness of the skin. This results in glow, firmness, improved texture in “the envelope” of the skin. Evidence shows flawless skin is a component of facial attractiveness.
- In a study of CT scan analyses, those between 46-57 years of age lose, on average, around 5 1/2 mls of volume from the mid-face, resulting in an older sagging facial appearance. Hyaluronic acid treatments (such as Restylane, Belotero, RHA, Juvederm, Revanesse) are still the most effective treatment (more reliable than fat grafting) at achieving support in the deep planes, replenishing lost volume and thus reestablish aesthetically pleasing facial contours.
- Aesthetic intervention at the onset of facial changes with age means softer facial ageing in the following decades. Prevention beats repair eg: J Lo. However, interventions later in life, are effective with high satisfaction, even for those in their 80s.
