Want to know more about “the newest botox that lasts 6 months”?
By Dr Maeve Kenningham medical director of Dr K’s Clinic. Reported on the 28 January 2025.
UPDATE:
Is available in clinic from end of May 2025!
IN SUMMARY:
New strain of toxin, that studies show last up to 6 months in 75 % of patients.
Purified with modern technology, other ones use the technology that's been available since the 1980s. It's pure and the fragile toxin molecule is delicately processed. This ensures maximum effect in the target muscles, this means highly effective within 24 hours and why it lasts a long time.
All other toxin have human albumin. This one doesn't.
Thereare no complexing proteins, this means the chances of becoming resistant are negligible. This is particularly important for those who have been having botulinum toxin for years.

This is truly exciting news in the world of medical aesthetics. We have been waiting for a botulinum toxin type A (often abbreviated to botox) that lasts that bit longer than the standard 3 months. Our patients live busy lives, they want a toxin that gives quicker results, lasts longer and delivers great results time and time again.
What botox lasts the longest?
I hear this question all the time. To be honest all the current botox brands like Azzalure, Bocouture, Botox, Alluzience, Jeuveau and Nuceiva all last anywhere from 3 to 5 months. People tend to recognise this type of treatment as "botox" or "wrinkle treatment" but as you can see there are many brands.
Medical professionals often refer to botox as "Toxin", "neuromodulator" or indeed "Botulinum Toxin Type A". People vary as to what aesthetic result they want. Some want to maintain those lifted brows and reduced frown as much as they can so request to attend at 12 weeks whilst others are happy to see their movement slowly return and thus return at 5 months for a repeat treatment. So it may not be the case of which botox gives the longest-lasting results, it may be what botox lasts the longest for your aesthetic aspirations. However Relfydess (generic name RelabotulinumtoxinA), the newest botulinum toxin from Galderma, appears to outperform the others currently on the market according to results from pretty robust clinical trials, and I'm a sceptic!
Who makes Relfydess?
The multi-national global company Galderma makes it. They are also the makers of the world famous Azzalure (another Botuliun Toxin), Restylane dermal fillers range and the first bio-stimulating filler Sculptra.
I know this company very well from their outstanding input in clinical Dermatology. They have formulated innovative medicines for skin diseases like Epiduo for Acne Vulgaris, Soolantra for Acne Rosacea, Cetaphil for Eczema and lots of others. This company know a lot about the scientific processes about bringing game changers to the world of clinical dermatology. It’s why I trust them 100% with their aesthetic offerings. And this new Relfydess is no different.
Where in the UK can I get Relfydess?
Relfydess is coming to the UK early 2025 and here at Dr K’s Clinic we will be offering this to all our patients. Relfydess may not be available in all countries. This is only available to patients when they have undergone a face to face medical consultation, with a medical professional, usually with a doctor, who determines whether the treatment will be safe and effective for that person. There are certain medical conditions that preclude some people from having botox.
How much does Relfydess cost?
This product is promising to be really cost effective when delivering 6 months of results. We are lucky enough to buy in large quantities and these cost savings are passed on to patients. Currently we are able to offer Relfydess for the same procedural costs as the other toxins in clinic.
Why is it different?
Relfydess® (RelabotulinumtoxinA) is the first and only ready-to-use liquid neuromodulator created with PEARLTM Technology that is designed to preserve molecule integrity. It is a highly-active, innovative, complex-free botulinum toxin A with a proprietary strain and manufactured using a unique state-of-the-art process. The other Botulinum toxins from Galderma such as Azzalure and Alluzience are abobotulinumtoxinA. Azzalure is known as Dysport in the USA.
Where can I have Relfydess injected?
In accordance with your doctor’s assessment and advice as this is a prescription only medication (POM). It can, for instance, be injected to improve fine lines and wrinkles in the frown or crow's feet area of the face. However, as is the case with all the other toxins, your doctor may also use it in an “off-label” manner. This simply means that the manufacturer has a license for it in just specific areas, but doctors often use it in other areas where it is deemed helpful for that patient.
If your injector is only offering you the standard 3 areas of forehead, frown and crows feet, you are missing out. This workhorse product can give you a lifted face effect when dabbled in very strategic areas. You'll be amazed when you see what it can do. Ask about jawline sculpting, neck lifting, nose narrowing, jawline slimming, the list goes on..
When can I see the results from Relfydess?
The results from treatment have been shown as soon as day 1. The scientific studies on an impressive 1,900 patients have shown around 40% of patients had improvements in their frown lines and around 35% saw improvements in their crows feet within 24 hours! Our patients often see their quick acting Azzalure show its effects at day 3. It’s not much quicker but it makes a difference if you’ve got a last-minute event where you want to look your best.
As for the longevity, well that’s the most exciting aspect of this new Botulinum Toxin. According to the clinical studies up to 75% of the patients maintain improvements for six months for frown lines and crow’s feet. There is more long-term data now available showing safety and effectiveness in over 12 months of use.
Is Relfydess safe?
As stated above, the company who makes this have a very long and respected reputation in the medical field of Dermatology. As a GP and a specialty doctor in Dermatology I know and trust this company and know that rigorous testing has been performed before anything becomes available to prescribe. Relfydess has been in the pipeline for years and had its phase 3 clinical trials in January 2024.
However, like all injectables, there are the potential for side effects to occur such as a risk of bruising. Thankfully there were low rates of treatment related side effects and were quoted as 4-9% in the trials. These were temporary and resolved quickly. And of those patients who participated in the trials, >84% reported to have high treatment satisfaction rates.
How does Relfydess work?
This works in the same manner as all the other Botulinum Toxin Type A medication. When injected into a fascial muscle, the nerve fibres that transmit the signals that supply that muscle, take up the protein from Botulinum Toxin, rendering them temporarily inactive and therefor the targetted muscles stop working. On average this can take anywhere between 2 days to 14 days to take full effect. When the muscle stops working, the skin above it looks smoother as it is no longer being repeatedly creased and this results in a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
This is different to how other cosmetic procedures work. Hyaluronic acid or collagen inducing dermal fillers, as the name suggests, work by effectively plumping up the tissues. Even the most potent skincare, such as those containing active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, peptides, will not give the results that botox can. Although in our clinic all 3 are commonly combined to give you the best possible results.

So is Relfydess really the longest lasting botox brand? Let us see. The most important thing to me is whether my patients like it.
Happy patient= Happy doctor!
By the way, if your current injector is only ever offering you treatment in the “standard” 3 areas (ie: forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet), you are missing out on the face lifting effects a good injector can create, so get a new one.
