Law to now ban cosmetic injectables (Botox and fillers) being administered to children under 18

30/04/21Law to now ban cosmetic injectables (Botox and fillers) being administered to children under 18

Injectable treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers are not without medical risk. It is estimated almost 30,000 dermal filler procedures were undertaken on those under 18.

Thanks to the “Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act” that was passed yesterday it is only NOW illegal for anyone (other than a doctor or other experienced medical specialists) to administer such procedures.

Hopefully this is the first step in stopping unscrupulous providers who have an eye on business and not the psychological and physical well being of patients, being allowed to continue to administer these treatments.

In the rest of Europe only medical doctors are permitted to treat patients with these injectable treatments. Unfortunately in the UK, if you have given consent for the injection, anyone with minimal to no medical training, can put the needle into your face and press the plunger. They are not breaking the law. It is horrifying.

The Bill, which has been officially enshrined in law, is expected to come into force in the Autumn of 2021.

In the meantime, please educate family and friends about this law, it is there for very good reasons.
